March Member Meeting – Demo Artist Joanna Burch
Please, join us on Wednesday, March 22, for our free Member Meeting. Joanna Burch will be demonstating the fine art of porcelain painting. Everyone is welcome.
Most of these are large porcelain tiles (2 deminsional works) for framing and hanging. A few are functional pieces. The process for painting on porcelain is as follows: The paints are powdered pigments mixed with oils which allow for adherance to the white, shiny, glazed, tile until it is fired in a kiln. This firing will sink the paint into the glazed surface. After firing, more paint is applied to deepen or darken the painting, then fired again. This process is repeated until the painting is complete, which can be up to as many as 10-12 times.
Joanna Burch, a native Texan, grew up along the south Texas shoreline most of her life. As a result, her love for coastal activities found it’s way into much of her early artistic work. Observing those special moments of interaction with family and friends, through body language and colorful objects of fun and play, has inspired her to create wonderful, everyday, scenic images which embody many of her coastal paintings.
The meeting will take place on March 22 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at Harry Meyers Community Center, 815 E. Washington St., Rockwall, TX 75087. The public is welcome.
