Sydney Yeager’s conceptual focus on fragmentation has inspired her work. The idea of an independent part colliding into a whole and then collapsing back into a singular unit has interested Yeager for years. For Yeager, this idea plays off a sense of continuity that is constantly threatened with disintegration.
Driven by sensuous color and form, the fragmentation in her work implies a whole, but a mysterious whole that can only be imagined. There is an implied presence, but also an absence within a continuous motion. The perpetual question of whether fragments are nostalgic reminders of the past or the beginnings of a new form, inspires Yeager as she continues to document her exploration of fragments.
