Professional artist Maureen Brouillette will be our guest artist for the Friday night Open Art meetup on February 7th. She has had much experience with critiquing art in her local critique groups and as an instructor in art workshops.
She will do a five-minute evaluation of your work for free. Because time is limited, a reservation is required to reserve critique time.
However, you will also learn as much about design and composition criteria by watching her critique the work of other artists. So come and watch, even if your work isn’t part of the critique.
Register to reserve your spot for a FREE critique! This entitles you to one piece of art for review. Space is limited.
Location: Jaycee Park Center for the Arts, 1975 Puritan Dr., Irving TX 75061
Sponsored by the Irving Art Association
Maureen on the Art Critique process:
“I am looking forward to doing critiques at the Jaycee Park Center for the Arts on Feb. 7. I hope you enjoy the experience of not only listening to what I have to suggest about your work but also about everyone else’s work. We all tend to make a lot of the same mistakes, so hearing other artist’s critiques is often helpful for all of us in the group.
Working alone as an artist can be lonely and difficult at times. Meeting with other artists is not only fun, but can be extremely constructive for your individual growth as an artist. I have been a member of the same critique group since around 1993 and it has helped me in many ways.
There are many advantages to joining an art critique group. You will be motivated to get at least one or two paintings a month done so that you will have something to show and be critiqued at each meeting. Generally speaking, the more work you do, the better artist you will become. And you will have a support group that encourages your progress.
So if making more art, exhibiting and selling your work, getting into
juried shows and winning awards is important to you, those things are
much more likely to happen when you are a member of a critique group.
You will build a supportive network of artist friends who you will see
monthly. And most importantly, you will learn ways to improve your work
and push the quality of your work to the next level.
During my
regular monthly Dallas and Arlington two hour critique sessions, I
focus on each artists’ work for ten minutes. You may bring one or two
pieces for me to critique. All levels are welcome. The cost is $25. If
you think you might benefit from being a regular member of one of my
critique groups, please let me know.”
