Greater Denton Arts Council is proud to present the 32nd annual Materials Hard + Soft International Contemporary Craft Competition and Exhibition.  Recognized as one of the premier craft exhibitions in the country, Materials: Hard + Soft began in 1987 and was originally initiated by area artist Georgia Leach Gough.

Now in its 32nd year, we celebrate the evolving field of contemporary craft and the remarkable creativity and innovation of artists who push the boundaries of their chosen media. The exhibition includes artworks in the following media; glass, wood, fibers, ceramics, mixed media, and other non-traditional media. Artists from the DFW metroplex area and as far away as Taiwan and Germany are represented.

This year’s call for artists drew over 1,100 submissions from 12 countries around the world. Juror Janet McCall selected 68 works for exhibition at the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center including works from 28 states and 4 countries including Germany, Canada, and Taiwan in varying media including metal, wood, plastic, ceramic, fiber, glass, and mixed media.

Catalogs are available on-site and online. https://dentonarts.com/materialshardandsoft.

This exhibition is funded in part by the city of Denton, the Texas Commission on the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
