Artist talk: October 15, 12:15 – 1:30 p.m. This artist lecture is part of Texas Wesleyan’s Mitchell-Reed Community of Learners lecture series held in the art gallery. It is an opportunity to meet the artist and have an informal discussion about the exhibition. Visitors can bring a brown-bag lunch. The Eunice and James L. West Library provides drinks and cookies.

About the Exhibition
The gallery in the Bernice Coulter Templeton Art Studio at Texas Wesleyan University welcomes artist Sara Cardona. Her exhibition Southern Gothic promises to inspire one’s imagination while searching her large format collages.
In the words of the artist, Sara Cardona states, she “uses the analog process of cut-and-paste collage in the tradition of Dada assemblage and in a nod to the editing process of film. The amorphous forms created are inspired by the mood and sensibility of the South, its beauty and shadows. These forms suggest potential movement, even as they are static and the artist thinks of them as hybrid of object and film still. They are alluring and disarming at the same time, paying homage to both the presence of the human body and its absence as well. These forms become organisms that represent the detritus of human movement across the topography of the Southern Gothic, evolving and devolving into baroque forms.”
Cardona give us beauty and mystery at the same time requiring us to seek a balance between the two to discover her expressive content.
Sara Cardona was born in Mexico City. She is a Ph.D. candidate in Aesthetic Studies at University of Texas at Dallas. She has advanced studies in Painting and Sculpture and received her Master of Fine Arts from Tyler School of Art.

The renovation of the Polytechnic Firehouse to Texas Wesleyan’s new Bernice Coulter Templeton Art Studio is a key part of the Rosedale Renaissance, a $6.7 million project that revitalizes the Texas Wesleyan campus and Polytechnic neighborhood, and represents the University’s vision for the future.
