Leticia Garcia – Papier-mâché Workshop
Leticia Garcia is an Irving artist who creates delightful works using the ancient art of Papier-mâché. She will be sharing her modern methods of constructing figures and objects with paper and paste.
A workshop in two sessions:
Dates: TBA
Time: 10am- 4pm
Location: Jaycee Park Center for the Arts, 1975 Puritan Dr., Irving TX 75061. Sponsored by the Irving Art Association.
Session One: Create the base form (skeleton) of the sculpture and apply the first coats of paste and paper. While the first sculpture is drying, we will work on smaller pieces (spheres, flower vases, etc.) to further familiarize ourselves with the materials. Once the base form is completely dry, we will apply a second layer of paste and paper, and leave that to dry. It will need to be dry to take home.
Session Two: We will focus on subtle detail, and paint the sculpture with acrylic paint. We will also discuss final clear coat/varnish which will be applied a few days later after the sculpture is completely dry.
