At the monthly IAA Members Meeting on Tuesday, February 28th, our guest artist will be Terri Thoman, printmaker and book artist.
Doors open at 6:30 pm. The business meeting and announcements start at 7:00 pm, followed by the art demonstration. Visitors are welcome. Location: Jaycee Park Center for the Arts, 1975 Puritan Dr., Irving TX 75061. http://irvingart.org
Terri will give a demonstration on Coptic Book Binding.
One of the oldest book forms, this 3rd century Coptic binding originated in Ethiopia. Today the simplicity of this Coptic style book allows us to create a multitude of utilitarian books without any special equipment.
The Demo will show the basics of constructing the simple Coptic binding from found materials. Examples of each step will be on display and Terri Thoman will demonstrate some of the sewing stitches used to create this very versatile book.
Note: Each month members should bring one of their recent artworks by 6:45 p.m. to participate in the “Artist of the Month” competition. The winning artist is awarded a prize and the artwork is displayed in the Gallery until the next monthly meeting.
As always all gatherings are better with food! Please bring a snack to share (optional).
