From the Venetian Glass Revival to a surge in Venice’s popularity as a destination for American tourism, Italian glass heavily influenced American art, literature, design theory, and period ideologies of gender, labor, and class relations. Sargent, Whistler, and Venetian Glass: American Artists and the Magic of Murano presents exquisite examples of Venetian glass and brings to life the artistic experimentation the city evoked in works by artists such as William Merritt Chase, Frank Duveneck, James McNeill Whistler, John Singer Sargent, and many others. |

 Justin Ginsberg: Shaking the ShadowInspired in part by Sargent, Whistler, and Venetian Glass: American Artists and the Magic of Murano, Texas-based artist Justin Ginsberg is creating a site-specific, glass “waterfall” sculpture throughout the summer. Using a kiln set up on the Museum’s lawn, Ginsberg will pull the glass threads that make up the installation for visitors to experience firsthand how glasswork is created. |
