VAST’s May Guest Artist Presentation – Kimberly Morrow Panagiotakos – Alcohol Inks May 4th

You are invited to join the Visual Arts Society of Texas (VAST), for a presentation about painting with alcohol inks by Artist Kimberly Morrow Panagiotakos, on May 4th from 6:45 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center (PAAC), 400 East Hickory St, Denton, TX.

Kimberly will present tips, tricks, and techniques for using alcohol inks on a variety of surfaces. Some substrates discussed include tile, yupo paper, black vinyl, canvas, wood, plastic, and glass. Each will be presented with the necessary preparation for the material, and how to finish/seal it afterwards. Also discussed will be alcohol ink techniques, and “do’s” and “don’ts” for that material. (For example, setting your ink on fire gives interesting results on canvas and tile, but spells disaster for yupo paper! Also discussed will be ways to work with the alcohol ink. Brushwork, washes, drips & drops, heat, compressed air, fire, tipping, and resist are just some of the techniques I regularly use in my artwork

Kimberly is originally from Massachusetts; however, she is currently based in the Dallas/Fort Worth Texas area.  She strives to provide beauty through art for all her patrons and art students.  She finds that each new painting provides its own learning experience, and she feels that she learns something new with each painting.

Kimberly received her BFA from UMass Dartmouth and for several years worked in Boston as a medical illustrator.  In 1997 she moved to Texas and received her teaching certification from UNT and has been teaching art in Texas for 14+ years.  Kim is very active in the local art community and participates in many artist organizations in and around DFW.
