The WFMA invites you to make time for inspiration!
Last fall, the WFMA Collectors Circle made possible the purchase of a fine art print by Sedrick Huckaby for the Permanent Collection.
Titled American Dad, this print captures the large-portrait-thick-paint feeling seen in Huckaby’s paintings.
You can see American Dad in person at the WFMA through April 16 in the exhibition Visual Voice.
| About the Artist Sedrick Huckaby is a nationally accomplished artist, who lives and works in Fort Worth. He is known for using thick paint, called impasto, in the creation of large-scale portraits and works about traditional quilts. The artist’s subjects come from his life and, he says, are intended to “glorify everyday people.” Huckaby’s themes of faith, family, community, and heritage come from the essence of human relationships and, in various ways, invite everyone into communication with his art. Huckaby states, “I believe my paintings are done in a language more closely in tune with my soul than the language of my tongue.” Indeed, visual language in art speaks through the life experiences it evokes in every individual viewer. Sedrick Huckaby earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Boston University and a Master of Fine Arts at Yale University. He has received numerous prestigious awards, including a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant, and the title of 2018 Texas State Artist. His works are in the collections of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, among numerous others. |
