Art of Kay Carrel

The Art of Kay Carrel at the Creative Arts Center

The art of Kay Carrel is featured in the Creative Arts Center’s East Gallery this month. Kay Carrel is a well-known local artist. From the time she was a child, always carrying a tin of watercolors and a full pack of crayons, Kay has loved art. Now, her favorite media are watercolors, acrylics, casein, pastels and ink. Horses are a favorite subject for her, inspired by her life on her ranch. Landscapes are a theme she often uses, painting plein aire (outdoors) whenever possible.

She has taken many workshops with Internationally known water media master Stephen Quiller in Creede,Colorado and after spending time in Tucson, Arizona, Kay developed an appreciation for painting bold desert designs using cacti and wildflowers as models. Her travels to Italy and France have continued to inspire her art, often painting in her barn-turned-studio, where, she says, the horses who once filled the stalls are still brought to life in her paintings.

Kay’s work is colorful and often whimsical and very popular – her artwork graces many local residences because it captures the viewer. Her exhibit – Red Dog Saloon, the Art of Kay Carrel – continues through November 30. The Creative Arts Center is located at 200 W. 5th Street in Bonham, admission is always free and the gift shop is always open during gallery hours – Tuesday through Friday from 10 AM to 5 PM and Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM.  For more information about the center, go to Facebook or their website at www.creativeartscenterbonham.com.
