SheRock benefit for Veterans March 8 & 9

Local charity to host female-fronted bands to raise funds for North Texas female homeless Veterans

Denton, Texas – Local non-profit, Friends with Benefits, will host strong female-fronted bands for a two-day music International Women’s Day celebration called SheRock on March 8 & 9 at Backyard on Bell at 410 N Bell Avenue, Denton, Texas​. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to Women’s Veterans of America of Denton County who are focusing their efforts on building transitional housing for North Texas homeless female Veterans.

March 8’s music will focus on funk and hip hop. Starting at 7pm, Denton’s Southpaw Preachers, a soul, motown, funk band fronted by Hale Baskins, will get the crowd ready for a night of powerful grooves. Followed by Dallas’s M3cca, an artistic journey of love, light, peace, and self awareness. Up next will be Denton’s Millennial Falcon, a punk, funk, rap band fronted by ​D.I.Y.A (Mother Falcon). 2015 DDFW Master of the Mic winner, Alsace Carione who resides in Dallas, originally from Portsmouth, Virginia, will take the stage around 9:30pm. Ursa Minor, Dallas DJ Rachel Harvey will gear us up for the headlining act, Lardi B, aka Jenn Whitlock, from Dallas whose Cardi B parody videos have hit over 40 million views. Lardi B’s body positivity and incredible rapping talent will have the audience jumping and dancing.

Saturday, a women’s market will start at 1pm in the yard portion of the venue. Bring the whole family, including the furry ones, and enjoy lunch from the venue and food trucks, and shop women-owned vendors and businesses.

March 9’s music will focus on folk, indie, experimental, and rock. Indie-pop artist, Somogyi, front by Ashley Somogyi, will kick off the music portion of Saturday at 6pm. Following will be Denton’s dirty rock and roll act, The Red Death, fronted by Kitty Holt. Next will be Class Action, also from Denton and fronted by Danielle Longueville. All-female touring band, Thelma and the Sleaze from Nashville, Tennessee will rock the yard around 9:00pm. Up next will be Denton’s own all-female “Rock and roll for rainbow lovers” band, Pearl Earl includes band members Ariel Hartley, Stefanie Lazcano, Bailey Chapman, and Chelsey Danielle. The big finale for the charity event will be Sarah Jaffe, who is originally from Denton and is signed with Kirkland Records. Jaffe has toured with Lou Barlow, Norah Jones, Blitzen Trapper, Astronautalis, The Polyphonic Spree, Why?, Chelsea Wolfe, Midlake, Old 97’s and Centro-matic.
