AC HOTEL AND RESIDENCE INN DALLAS BY THE GALLERIA HOSTS RECEPTION FOR FRISCO ARTIST, RECOVERED CALLING
Every month, the new dual-branded AC Hotel and Residence Inn Dallas by the Galleria features the story of a local entrepreneur in a series called Entrepreneur of the Month. The hotel has selected Frisco-based artist Ryan Ekmark of Recovered Calling as the entrepreneur of August.
Ekmark has gravitated toward complex, three-dimensional artwork since high school. His unique style of art transforms reclaimed lumber into custom geometric wood art that creates a kaleidoscope of patterns and colors. Inspired by artists such as M.C. Escher, Salvador Dali and Georgia O’Keeffe, Ryan also draws inspiration from the surrounding architecture, sacred geometry, vector patterns. What started from a pile of scrap wood and unusable planks gradually transformed into an art career and the launch of his business, Recovered Calling. A registered nurse (RN) by trade, Ryan began pursuing his true passion on the side in the summer of 2017 because as he states: “I wasn’t dreaming big enough, I needed to let go of past conceptions and just go for it.” No two pieces of art are the same – his creations are mesmerizing and beautiful, yielding an amazing assortment of prismatic work that leave the viewer doing a doubletake. The intricate, complex designs often yield a 3-D effect as Ryan’s vision helps bring out the individuality and depth in each piece of weathered wood.
His work will be celebrated at an art reception at the hotel on August 21. Hotel guests and art fans from all over North Texas are welcome to attend the event, meet the artist and browse his art collection. This reception is free and open to the public and all ages. Craft cocktails, such as the hotel’s signature Maple Bacon Smash, and food from the European-inspired menu will be available for purchase.
